my plans for 2025 are to release 2 big projects i am currently working on, phiftysixty and the biggering amv, i have some ideas for other original cartoons that i might do, an idea i had circling around my head for a few days is a cartoon about 3 collage dropouts in mid 2000s trying to make a newgrounds cartoon, with their online reputation and 5k dollars on the line, the cartoon would probably be in some kind of mockumantry style, but will i make it? probably not

sometimes i write notes privately for cartoon ideas, one of them is just "fortnite cartoon", i think i know what i meant when i wrote that but i am not going to share because it's an idea i actually really like

PHIFTYSIXTY NEWS YEAH!!!!!

i haven't shared this here yet but i have a voice actor for one of the main characters phifty, sixty won't have a voice for budgetary reasons and also because i thought it would be a funny pair

the final draft of the script is nearly done, at least in my brain, i already know everything i want to do and more i just need to write it all down, the plot will be a tiny big different then what i have shown before would tell you but it's fine, trust the process, also, i began using a different brush!

pretty cool right? does it look good? i think it does!!!

as for the biggering amv, it's way harder then i thought it would be! i have been really stepping up my game in trying to bring as much detail as i can, i have been taking a lot of inspiration from many fan-animatics and storyboards over at youtube dot com, aswell as doing my own ideas, overall it's a very interesting challenge, if you want to get better at animating i recommend making an amv for a song you like from a movie or something, really brings out the imagination!

okay so for some personal life updates, i am STILL in highschool, so i can't just work on my cartoons 24/7, but i try to squeeze it in between my free time, alongside watching youtube and hanging out with my irl friends, as i am writing this it's one of the last days of hannukah vacation, and i have overslept so many times that it barely even feels like time is passing! very unhealthy on my part probably, is that enough personal life talk? yeah i think it is,

but yeah, overall pretty decent year to properly start my newgrounds journey, as i've said in my first ever blog post here, i always wanted to be a newgrounds creator, and it's been a pretty interesting ride so far! and i wouldn't trade it for anything in the world, i wonder where i would be if i never started posting my projects here, probably really sad and bored, i don't know if any of my big projects will ever be admired for the hard work and passion i put into them, as much as i tell myself i do them for myself, deep down any artist can agree that having your art seen is an amazing feeling, so i hope when they're done everyone can see them and enjoy what i have to offer, all 6 of my cartoons so far have been pretty lazy, made each in a single afternoon, they all have around 3-4 stars ratings which is fair considering their quality, but i believe i can do much more, so in 2025 my main goal is to show what i can really do!!

sorry if this blog post is all over the place, i just wanted to say everything i want to say before the year ends, even though i started in 2023 i really think 2024 is when i got my gears going

happy holidays! a little early i know but it is december, a lot has been going on behind the scenes here at shoko29 studios, the phiftysixty cartoon is being completely redone! yup, 6+ months of animation just to be thrown out, i know it sounds dissapointing but it's for the better, i was not satisfied with what i had completed up until now, and i knew if i want to start over i had to do it early, so i did! as a little treat for waiting so long

and for my other cartoon project? going pretty well! about 20% of it's storyboards are complete, it's really fun to sit down and conceptualise what i want each shot to look like

trying to draw in a semi-seuss artstyle is a very fun challenge, not an easy one but i still try to keep the essence of it

if you've noticed, i finally found out how to add gifs to blog posts! yay! going to be really useful for sneak peeks

anyway, back to phiftysixty, not everything is being scrapped, i am still going to use the same general plot and even reuse some assets that still hold up, doing this as to not literally go back to square one, doing that would really suck! and not be really that worth it,

this one is a little different then the previous update blogs, because i am taking a break from phiftysixty! mostly to figure out what i even want to do with it, the story i want to tell is getting a little too ambitious for my own two hands so i decided on taking a little detour for a while,

for the next month or two i am going to be working on a little side project, an animated adaptation of the 2012 illumination the lorax cut song "Biggering" (aka the original how bad can i be)

i have only seen animatics of the song but never a full animation, so i am taking up the task to do it myself

going to try and make it mostly faithful to the original book/animated short but with some elements from the movie that i like, if you're interested in listening to the song i recommend looking it up it's like actually probably like top 10 animated villain songs of all time

until now every animation i posted here i made in a single afternoon on a whim, with not much care for worldbuidling or actually telling a story, but with phiftysixty i am putting my wiritng skills to the test to create an exciting fun little world, which is very hard! and takes time to think everything through, which is why i am taking a small break from phiftysixty to work on something less brain consuming

but just so i won't leave you all starving, here is a little teaser of arguably the most ambitious piece of animation i have ever put myself through

wow, half a year of production already?? i still remember first designing these characters, thinking "wow, these are the sickest character designs i've made since like, 10 year old me's roblox character" time goes forward and so do my skills, i am very proud of the progress i have been making, this month i have taken a small step back and decided to focus more on what i want to do with the world building rather then the cartoon by itself, and stuff that probably won't be relevent for a long long time from now, but do you care about that? assuming you're not from the far future, probably not!

i am getting the hang of this whole animation thing, and i am getting the hang of it very fast! just a few months ago i had issues with just having a character turn their head to the side, making the early scenes of the cartoon look a bit weird, like some sort of season 1 of a show vibe weird where everything is a little weird and unrefined

i am now getting into the "plot actually starts" part of the cartoon, so expect update blogs to get more and more vague as to not spoil anything up until release,

edit: it turns out that i have been using the 525 x 400 format instead of the 550 x 400 format this whole time, so i am going to go back and fix every shot, this might take a while but it is neccesery to make sure the finale thing looks better

tomorrow, i will be 16 years of age! wow! so mature, really weird to know that i've been on this site since i was 11 but only recently made an account to post my projects, speaking of, phiftysixty is still being worked on!!! i got a lot of motivation thanks to the support i've been getting, since the last blog post i also started high school and had less time to work on it though, very sorry for that

since the last blog post i also animated a third of a full scene, and started storyboarding the first scene of the second act!

(storyboard, i don't really stick to the storyboards when animating so don't expect it to look anything like this)

speaking of animation, i feel like i am starting to get better at movement and posing, which sounds like a good thing (i mean, it is) but it makes the animation in the earlier scenes feel like an early first season of a cartoon show where everything looks slightly off, so i might go back and reanimate some stuff? i don't know, i don't have the time to do that i think

also i don't know if i ever said why it's called phiftysixty huh, well it's because the two main characters are called phifty and sixty, really should have mentioned that beforehand

by the end of 2024 i will have to move out because the landlords are going to get us evicted, and i just started high school, but in the meantime i will update you all on phiftysixty (my cartoon)

animation progress is going very well, over 45 seconds of animation have been finished since the last blog post here!!! the character in the screenshot right here is the main antagonist of the cartoon, voiced by me, because i don't have a budget to get voice actors

at this rate, i will get the entire thing done before 2025! that's exciting right?

also, how could i forget to mention but my birthday is this month!!! the big sixteen is right around the corner for me, it is on the 29/9, and it's just 26 days away!! how exciting

should i make these update blog posts like a monthly thing? right now it is, might as well make it an intentional thing

the first scene is finished animation wise, i've asked a friend to help with the background music but they're busy so they won't be able to do that for at least a while, on the good news though, i have started to work on the second scene!!! i don't want to say what happens in it because i haven't even storyboarded all of it yet, but here's a little sun from it's first shot, cool right? i wasn't sure on if to keep the face or not, but i went with as to make sure the world feels goofy and a little childish & over the top, very short update i know but since i already have the vision for it finalized i don't really have much to update you all on other then "i am doing it"

although i can say i am not sure if i will finish it before summer vacation ends, very low chance of that being complete in that time frame

anyway yeah remember to check it out when i finish it ok bye

it's going pretty well! still on the first scene though, and so far i've taken the risky decision to not storyboard anything and just kind of draw everything frame by frame from the mind, does that sound like a good idea? if you know anything about animating, probably not!!! but don't worry, everything is going fine and if i ever want to switch to actually storyboarding stuff i will, one of the reasons i avoided that in the first place was that i wanted the cartoon to have a very crude aesthetic, but i could probably keep that while actually storyboarding, anyway sorry for rambling about such a non-interesting topic, and now.. onto actually interesting stuff!!

assuming you haven't read my previous post, the cartoon is about 2 little ex-minions of the almighty princess of, earth, i guess, trying to pull the ultimate heist to hopefully afford a neat house far away from society, and there's also lots of cat ears, due to my lack of voice acting skills, thick accent, and a pretty bad microphone, i had to resort to having character dialogue be presented through magical floating text, that might be changed later on? i can't know, :P

so yeah, thank you everyone that has been patiently waiting, and to all my friends who support me

yeah!!! you might have seen these little rascles on my profile before, well they are going to be featured in a brand new cartoon i am working on! the sketch before you is a mock up of a scene i had in mind, not to be confused with storyboards, i will be animating, writing, directing, all that lame production lables that you keep hearing about, only thing i might need assistence with is music, i'l try contacting musicians that i think could do the job and style i am looking for and if i can't find someone i might just either use royality free music or open up for collaborations, never used that feature before so that would be interesting, but back on topic...... yeah!!! cartoon!!! don't expect it to be anything too spectacular for i am just one person with adobe flash and a dream

i don't want to share too much information about the cartoon itself, like the plot and stuff, but i can promise it will have better microphone quality then my previous animation, and maybe even a fight scene? depends, i still don't have the whole thing actually written, would probably work better as a story-board driven movie since i plan on having lots of visual gags and stuff, with my main inspiration for the artstyle being stuff like azumanga daioh (my favorite anime!!!) and fellow newgrounds users like vintdoo and ennuikal

in the meantime, i might make some progress posts (no promises!!!) and work on other projects i am a part of like funky birds by ronnycommitment and the rest of the birdhouse dev team, and hopefully enjoy the summer vacation next week, still need to finish up the last few days of middle school lol

this is me! (shoko is the me in question) (artistic interpretation, i am not a cartoon character in real life)

i like drawing and animating stuff that i am interested in like angry birds and other loser baby stuff like that

i draw using adobe flash cs6 pro and sometimes i tip my toes in the waters of ms paint, and my favorite video games are fortnite, team fortress 2, friday night funkin', and any slingshot-styled angry birds game (except ab2, bleh)

i am also (WARNING!!!) transgender, pretty closeted about that but i am fine with sharing that online, and i also have autism since i was born, so please be patient with me

i plan on eventually animating a short movie / pilot / animated thing about these characters i have been doodling to myself for a few months now, if i can't do that then i will be really sad because i love them

i've first heard of newgrounds around the big friday night funkin' craze going on back in the early 2020s, this site looked very special! i had to join it, i made an account back then, abandoned it, and recently made a new one (this one!!!) so i could post my artworks and stuff, i already kind of do that on twitter but since elon musk is a dumb idiot who should be publicly executed for crimes against humanity i don't really feel proud to be there, here on the other hand i feel right at home! i don't think i will ever entirely move to newgrounds from twitter though, because on twitter i can tweet unfinished/doodles that aren't as high effort as the stuff here, which is probably for the better honestly i am entirely content with using both websites unless elon does something that's just so horrible i'l have to move to here forever

i love all the creations people are posting here and stuff, and i am proud to be a part of it :-)
